Taken from a letter to Hugh Budgen.

I have so many connections with Cheshire, I am just going to list them all below.

Arrived at Lords 1944, left the weekend before the buzz bombs.

Arrived at Cranage 90 I.T.W. and soon settled there.

Met up with Mrs Ellis who had friends and relations all around, she ran a restaurant down by the square in Middlewich.

The Travel Ban was on just before D-Day. No travel allowed so I stayed with Mrs Ellis and relations.

When war ended Mrs Ellis’s brother gave me his car for 3 days to visit the countryside, Chester, Pickmere lake and Pear Tree Farm.

Out a few years back I visited the R.A.F.A. Home in “Sussex Down”. My wife Pat and I met Mrs Vernon who came from Middlewich. Mrs Ellis was her aunt.

Learnt to swim at the public baths.

Please feel to call or drop me a line.

P.S. Sorry for the scrawl! I’m just approaching 97.
