ABOUT MIDDLEWICH HERITAGE TRUST
Middlewich Heritage Trust is a Charitable Company (no. 9441581), limited by guarantee and a registered charity (no. 1161871). As its governing document it uses the model provided by the Charity Commission.
- The Trust’s purpose is the preservation and promotion of the heritage of Middlewich (including buildings, artefacts and archives) as a resource for the benefit of the residents of Cheshire East, of Cheshire West and Chester, and of the wider public.
- There are presently five trustees and a Company Secretary who are resourced and advised by the Town Council’s Heritage Officer. The Trust is looking to recruit new Trustees and Trust members.
- The Trust are also supported by the Town Council via a small annual grant.
The Trust’s purpose is the preservation and promotion of the heritage of Middlewich (including buildings, artefacts and archives) as a resource for the benefit of the residents of Cheshire East, of Cheshire West and Chester, and of the wider public.
Middlewich Heritage Trust, with assistance from Middlewich Town Council and other interested parties, will restore Murgatroyd’s Brine Pumps and surrounding area into a heritage, tourism and educational resource for the town. This project will be integrated with other related projects in the area to produce a comprehensive tourist salt route thereby contributing to Cheshire’s heritage, tourism and planning strategies and the Local, Neighbourhood, Waterways and Conservation plans.
Regular activities of the Trust include Brine Pump open days, heritage tours, talks & school sessions and involvement in other heritage projects including the impact of the World Wars, the Civil War, the Normans and the Romans on the town and the ‘Wych & Water’ project which celebrates the salt and canal culture of our town.
We produce booklets, leaflets, trail guides and maintain two websites: www.middlewich-heritage.org.uk & www.middlewichvirtualmuseum.co.uk.
We have an archival collection which is stored at our offices, containing Middlewich heritage, and the George Twigg archive, all of which are catalogued.
The Trust is working in partnership with other trusts and organisations within Cheshire to actively promote our shared industrial and social heritage.
Memberships and Donations
Since its incorporation in 2015 the Trust has been managed by five trustees with help from a small number of other interested people.
We now want to increase the membership of the Trust by recruiting members who will be eligible for election as trustees and will be able to elect trustees at the AGMs.
Members will be able to participate in heritage research and activities and could help with the renovation and maintenance of the Murgatroyd’s site and of the Trust’s historical archive. We intend to arrange group visits for members to other heritage sites and talks and other activities about the heritage of Middlewich to which members would have preferential
access.
The annual membership fee is £10 per year which will contribute to the on-going costs of funding the Trust’s heritage activities.
