WOW DAYS

WOW Days – All seven local schools worked together on their projects, a first for the town. Middlewich High School became the base and worked on the WWI research with the help of a research pack with local information and research done by former Headmaster Philip Andrews who later produced a book of his information ‘The Middlewich Thirteen’. The high school pupils worked on delivering projects to the primary school pupils and the two WOW days were held at Middlewich High School to great success. The workshops were very diverse in content and the way they were approached through art, history, writing, poetry and drama.

A sculpture was conceived out of the ideas of the workshops and the method chosen to deliver their project in October was through Drama.

Jason King – Educational Consultancy, came in to work with all seven schools over two days, no mean feat! It was great that the pupils could role play in order to understand more about a snapshot in time in the Trenches. The play was put together around the Christmas Truce of 1914 and the script was developed by teachers Amy Harding and Gemma Reynolds. The play also incorporated research done by Philip Andrews on the prisoners of war and local information of the time.

Sandra Christie a member of the Cheshire Artists Network helped with understanding the poppy and what it means.
